This was to reveal the true intents and emotions of the players in each plot, which highlights the role they play in momentous choices in high-stake situations. Two Kelpians and a Disco Kenny (Zero Kelpians were harmed during this shoot. Sharing? We need to examine our highest ideals and allegiances to reveal our preconceived notions, shallow knee-jerk reactions, and find the truth about our choices. Its been sooo inconsistent from day one. In the season four finale Coming Home, Mary Wiseman returned as Lt. Tilly, now a Starfleet Academy leader working with cadets and Admiral Vance to coordinate the evacuation and defense of Earth on Federation HQ. Sick and tired of T and A being the main focus. Against all odds, shes in Starfleet and thriving. (OMG, weve gone way off topic lol. Tillys character arc was mishandled once they realized Mary Wiseman was cast (Marys a decade or more older than Tilly). Something happened to Tilly (Wiseman) and Bryce (Rowe). I think theres room for it. It doesnt look like unhealthy curvy but just different type of genes. When Mary Wiseman's Lt. Sylvia Tilly left the USS Discovery for a job at the new Starfleet Academy in the fourth episode of season four, it was promised she would be back. This is a part of the reason people cant take to them, alongside their poorly written characters. It doesnt matter either way but with so much Voyager mythology created in those novels, it would be cool to see some of it translated on this show! I mean, there could have been but it was never seen or talked about. The frequency and level of mockery and hate, very often is targeted to the female actors, for them to behave like women, to behave as woman leaders. And I felt that was ridiculous. Its just lazy writing. Cant believe people are so rude as to insult anyone because they dont look the way they expect. Heck I think it was more unrealistic when some chick was upset he wasn't ready for sex. No probably not. Shes beyond perfect with her line delivery. Where I live people compete on the merits and are proud of their professional or intellectual achievements not their bad habits, bad health or even born with attributes such as divergent sexual orientation that they had no influence over whatsoever. It's mostly the super-hero genre where you see this. For people who dont know, it had to do with Voyager leading a fleet of ships going back to the Delta Quadrant a few years after Voyager arrived home. I have only heard of the details a few months ago thanks to a video that TrekCentral (amazing YouTube channel) made about it for Prodigy theorizing a connection. [laughs] Everybody loves Tilly. But I would like to read some of the TNG books Ive heard about, especially the Destiny series which I know is a big crossover with all the classic shows and the Borg. That is why you never saw councelors on any other class ship. Im proud to be here and I am proud to wear my skin-tight costume and proud of my body. Exactly. Im sure nearly everyone of the crew of TNG had issues and problems. Shes a badly conceived written and conceived character theyve desperately tried to bolster. All Access Star Trek Podcast, Discovery, DS9, Lower Decks, Section 31, Star Trek 4, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Prodigy, Strange New Worlds. Star Trek: Discovery threw a shocker into its latest episode as Lieutenant Sylvia Tilly decided to leave the Discovery crew. Many smoke to keep the weight off. The last novel just came out last year (where does she find the time lol). While Tilly had big dreams in Star Trek: Discovery season 1, she struggled with feelings of inadequacy and was hindered by a social awkwardness that often left her feeling like an outsider. I think you are talking jibberish. It is not OK to be overweight. But it would seem to me that it might ought to be standard practice to have a Betazed on the bridge on all starships if those stills were so needed. Wiseman possess voluptuous hourglass shaped figure. After his first episode or two, I was done with Barclay and was frustrated when he came back, and especially when he showed up on Voyager. The reason why Troi was on the bridge all the timewas that she was a betazoid. Maybe Saru wont be on the ship as much but Im guessing they are going the same direction. No, from Starfleets POV its 3 years. The Tilly we saw as Earth, check that United (eyeroll) Earth was being evacuated is NOT the same Tilly we saw for the previous 40+ episodes. I cant stand any sentence (especially related to DSC) which starts off with Everybody loves Its never true. She was annoying to me, and the crew gave her a lot of leeway. Its sci-fi, brah. The character. But respect is always earned and never enforceable. And honestlyKirk wouldnt last a week in a military environment. Star Trek is supposed to be socially progressive but this show went too far. There really are some of the DS9 authors that are stronger and some that tend to tell too much and show to little in their writing in my view. She is full of self doubt, guilt, and anxiety, yet she doesnt quit. In large part that is down to getting set in my ways with this franchise, so I have to temper my critiques with that knowledge. Keep up with theStar Trek Universe at TrekMovie.com. As long as Wesley Crusher exists she will always be in a race for that title. Although the last TNG with Trois mom wasnt terrible. She isnt back on Discovery. That however does nothing to mitigate the way Burnham has been written to be unforgivably self-absorbed throughout many of the key moments of the series. Remember , they had steroids and thyroid problems in the 80's, but the majority of people were off normal weight, which today would be called skinny. Mary Wiseman: We dont have that many scenes together but theres a lot of tension between us just as actors and personalities. Tilly is justannoying. Mary Wiseman. We have no information that Beyer consults in this show. Stupid decision to bring her back. The door is open, I suppose, if that show should fail for some reason, but I doubt theyll just throw her back into the same role on the ship like nothing ever happened. I dont think Tilly is ruined. And saying they should be sending this message is just another way to try to bully someone into doing what you want, not what that person wants for their self. Her character, Sylvia Tilly, has had plenty of opportunities to shine without giving anything away, and Wiseman has risen to the occasion. Somehow these insecure people feel others not like them are a threat to how they see themselves and how the world should, in their opinion, be. However, with the successive changes in show runners the coherence of Burnhams development has been lost. From what Ive read, having her on the bridge because of her betazed abilities was what Roddenberry had in mind. I do not endorse body-shaming in any way, as I was bullied as a kid years ago. She strikes me as no different than Barkley. I did, though. Imo, this show tries so overly hard to be socially progressive, its the very thing that makes it a turn-off. But I really do like Book a lot! Its very possible Mary Wiseman wanted off the show, or needed a bit of a break. Probably some admirals cousin. I do find their quirks annoying at times, but the most important reason I like them is because theyre honest, kind people with a good heart. Theyre losers, pure and simple. Yes! :-), What, you mean you dont follow your patients around at work, giving suggestions? No character like her would ever have graduated Starfleet. Have to completely agree you T2. Lets stick with the science and not target individuals. Mack is one of the core group of Trek authors going back to shortly before Nemesis. Im proud to see that shes proud of herself. I just wonder if maybe they are adapting the basic idea to what we are seeing in Prodigy since the Protostar couldve been part of the Full Circle program and was sent back to the DQ for a specific mission? You either think about what you can contribute to society or how society owes you handouts, respect for above-mentioned bad habits, fictitious pronouns even. Its intolerance in its most basic form, and anyone who engages in, advocates for, or turns a blind eye and deaf ear to it are examples of the worst humanity has to offer, and most certainly have no business calling themselves a Star Trek fan. Im not surprised people making mean comments, some people will find whatever they can that they know will upset everyone and say it. What do you think it looks like? Since this is a show for kids and its not directly focused on the Voyager characters (at least not yet ;)), obviously I dont really expect any of the bigger plot lines from those books to happen; but it would be cool if the basic idea stuck around and that the Protostar was part of a long term mission of advance starfleet ships heading back to the DQ for study. And Id add she has a hero complex too always wants to save the day/galaxy/whathaveyou. I think Mary is doing a fantastic job as isSonequa, Their characters are fantastic as are all the others. Its shall we say very variable. There is such a difference between having criticisms of the way the characters are written and criticizing the actors performance/craft and their leadership in the company. Not holding my breath hes given the job though, especially since we know Saru is coming back. Every character aboard that ship represents a minority. Tillys great contribution is that shes NOT that sort of superwoman most people can never be. Even 1,000 years into the future, Burham cannotoh well, that is a different story for a different post. Then maybe I would actually remember his name! (But then she has always reminded me, her looks and bubbliness, of my cousin who just so happens to be a wonderful teacher. To be clear, my opinion on a show has no bearing on how it helped you at a terrible time in your life. In fact, it says far more about the body-shamers than it does about those being body-shamed. That promise was. I see those things and they hurt me because Im a person. After the first two seasons of high pressure I thought I would have seen more growth. #StarTrekDiscovery #MirrorLandry pic.twitter.com/Ed0nbToiQH, Rekha the leaves (@TheRekhaSharma) December 19, 2020. Basically a good officer whos been in Starfleet for some years but her career stalled due to emotional and self-esteem issues. She would have flushed out of SFA in her first year. Is her awkwardness all that different from Ezri on DS9? There have been moments where they tried to do that, but like everything else on Discovery where self-doubt and emotional scenes of worry in darkly-lit rooms need to be front and center, they always seemed to bring Tilly back to spazzing out because she was nervous about whether she can do it before being put on a mission. Shes one of the shows most divisive characters. Agreed. All Access Star Trek Podcast, Discovery, DS9, Lower Decks, Section 31, Star Trek 4, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Prodigy, Strange New Worlds. Ok, SH didnt invent this. I keep saying this but its a great time to be a Star Trek fan again! And I just let the writers take me on a journey. Just when it looks like the character has finally grown as a person and doing her own thing, comes right back. It is constantly exposing the never ending struggle of smart and talented woman of color. . Im sorry but what youve described about Tilly is like something out of a Nickelodeon teen high school drama. MS Wiseman owns the sadistic Bitch Capt Killy like she does Tilly. SuKal accidentally blowing up all warp ships thats another instance of Trek being intwined with my own life So you offend S3 of DSC, you also sully the memory of my mum and EVERY mother that ever died. But my point was that she rarely conveyed anything useful or something that was not already obvious to all. The rumors started and spread like wildfire when some fanatics of Star Trek Discovery found out that Mary gained a few pounds between the seasons. Development for the fifth season of Discovery is well underway, with production expected to begin in June. Understanding? But was it not made pretty clear that Counselors had become a regular thing on command crews in the TNG era? Story: With . I lovvvve Lilly/Tilly and her curves. That was an awfully fast turnaround. But one could argue a ship full of Barclays is not the most convincing portrait of humanity. A person who we see strive to make themselves a better person. There is a great scene back in S1 when Tilly and Burnham are doing cardio training and post workout are eating their protien, carbs and fat nutrition, something that the body requires after a hard cardio workout. Make better choices. She is a real girl. That way she wont get the appearance she does now of jumping over more experienced officers and seeming to just get ahead because shes Sarus favorite. That was always the theory I had for Barclay. Although criticism of a performance is valid (Burnhams whispering, over emoting etc.)
